HealthyCar.org — Using SMS Text Messaging

For the first time, consumers will be able to access product ratings using mobile devices. Devices with the ability to send and receive SMS text messages can send a properly-phrased message to 41411 (instructions below) and receive a reply to their phone. Those with devices capable of providing a "rich" web browsing experience can use our mobile device-optimized site, Mobile.HealthyCar.org.

HOW IT WORKS

SMS Texting

Simply text healthycar [make, model, year, and/or level of concern (low, med, or high)] or healthyseat [brand, type, model, and/or level of concern (low,med,high)] to 41411. We’ll reply with whether the car or car seat received a “high”, “medium”, “low” for chemicals of concern (those that contained the following elements: Antimony, Arsenic, Bromine, Chlorine, Chromium, Cobalt, Copper, Lead, Mercury, Nickel and Tin). In other words you can send the message “healthycar GMC low” to 41411, and receive a reply right to your phone with a list of GMC cars that tested “low”.

Make requests as specific as possible

You don't need to use brackets on your text message as in some of the above examples

If your mobile phone is set up to automatically send your text messages with your name or any auto-signature at the end of the text message, you will have to delete that on these particular text messages for them to work

Mobile Device Optimized Site

Direct your iPhone, Blackberry, or other web browser-enabled mobile device to mobile.healthycar.org. Visitors will be able to access summary information for all car models tested by the HealthyCar.org team, including overall product ratings and fuel economy. As with the HealthyCar site (www.healthycar.org), you will be able to access listings by vehicle make or industry classification, in addition to a "best/worst" list of vehicles grouped by class. Some site features, including complete chemical results and results for individual car components will only be available via the desktop version at this time. Individual component results, including complete test results, will not be available from mobile.healthycar.org.
